TO MOVE TO ARGENTINA, YOU MUST:

PERSONAL BELONGINGS

• 1) Residence for a minimum of two (2) years in a foreign country (for returning residents or Argentine citizens), or residence for a minimum of one (1) year, provided that during the last 12 months you have not traveled to Argentina one or more times with a cumulative stay exceeding 60 days.
• 2) Two (2) original bills of lading or air waybills
• 3) Packing list or inventory.
• 4) Valid passport with a valid visa (temporary or permanent) stamped in it.
• 5) Residence visa valid for a minimum period of one year (for foreigners only).
• 6) Certificate of residence issued by the Argentine Consulate in the sender’s country of origin (only for Argentine citizens or foreign nationals with a permanent residence visa).

VERY IMPORTANT: Upon entering Argentina, the sender must declare that they are expecting an unaccompanied baggage shipment, which will be noted in their passport. This also establishes the date on which the sender entered Argentina to reside. Personal effects and used household items may be brought into Argentina as unaccompanied baggage provided that the import is completed within six months of the sender’s arrival in the country, as verified by the stamps in the passport.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are bringing paintings, sculptures, or other works of art as part of your move, you must provide us with detailed information about them (including the materials used, the artist’s name, the title of the work, and the approximate date of creation). We recommend that you also email us a photo of each piece.

FOREIGN NATIONALS ENTERING ARGENTINA ON A TEMPORARY RESIDENCE VISA: These individuals may bring one or more shipments (while holding a temporary visa) of personal belongings and used household items into the country under temporary admission in accordance with the current guarantee system: The belongings must be secured with local customs authorities for the duration of the visa through a security policy, local bonds, cash, etc. The guarantee may be renewed for the same duration as the visa. – If, upon expiration of the guarantee, the temporary visa has not been renewed or a permanent visa has not been obtained, the goods must be nationalized (by paying the corresponding import taxes) or re-exported.

Once the permanent residence visa has been obtained, it must be presented to Customs Office. This cancels the security deposit, and the goods imported under it are nationalized and exempt from taxes. These foreign nationals may also import a shipment of used household goods within six months of the date the permanent residence visa was issued.

When the sender leaves Argentina, if he or she did not obtain a permanent residence visa during his or her stay in the country, he or she must either export all the items originally brought into the country (under a temporary permit) or nationalize them (by paying the corresponding import taxes). Once this requirement is met, the necessary documentation is submitted to Customs and the bond is released.

FOREIGNERS WITH A PERMANENT RESIDENCE VISA AND/OR RETURNING ARGENTINE CITIZENS may bring a shipment of personal belongings and used household items into Argentina duty-free, provided they meet the required periods of residence abroad.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION 

• A photocopy of the valid passport(s) certified by a Notary Public with the approval of the Argentine Notary Association, one of which must bear the stamped notation “awaiting unaccompanied baggage” applied by Customs personnel upon arrival at the Buenos Aires airport.
• A photocopy of a valid DNI, certified by a Notary Public with the approval of the Argentine Notary Association.
• CDI or CUIL
• Consular certificate issued by the Argentine Consulate in the country of origin stating that you have resided in that country for at least one year (only for Argentine citizens or foreign nationals with a permanent visa)
• Temporary visa valid for at least one year (only for foreign nationals)
• Certificate of Migration Status issued by the Immigration office corresponding to the client’s address as listed on their valid Argentine DNI
• 2 original B/Ls or Express Release
• Packing list
• Authorization for our company’s staff to handle customs clearance, with the client’s signature certified by a Notary Public under the supervision of the Argentine Notary Association.

AUTOMOBILES AND MOTORCYCLES:

• a) Argentine citizens returning to Argentina after residing abroad for at least TWO (2) years, and foreign nationals coming to reside in Argentina on a permanent resident visa, may import one (1) automobile and/or one (1) motorcycle. VERY IMPORTANT: These vehicles must have been registered in the sender’s name at least three (3) months prior to the sender’s arrival in Argentina to take up residence and/or the vehicles’ arrival in Argentina. Import duties of approximately 85% of the CIF value (cost, insurance, and freight) must be paid. NOTE: If the CIF value is less than US$15,000, the car will be exempt from import duties (General Resolution No. 3109/2011—this applies only to cars). – These vehicles may not be sold for two (2) years.
• b) Passengers with a temporary residence visa may bring in one (1) car and/or one (1) motorcycle under a temporary permit valid for 8 months, which is renewable.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION 

• Photocopies of the valid passport(s), including all pages—even blank ones—legalized by a Notary Public with the involvement of the Argentine Notary Association; one of these must bear the stamped notation “Waiting for unaccompanied baggage” applied by Customs personnel upon arrival at the Buenos Aires airport.
• A photocopy of a valid DNI, certified by a Notary Public with the approval of the Argentine Notary Association.
• CUIL
• A Consular Certificate issued by the Argentine Consulate in your country of origin stating that you have resided in that country for at least 2 years (only for Argentine citizens or foreigners with a permanent visa)
• Certificate of Migration History processed at the Immigration office corresponding to the address listed on your valid Argentine DNI
• Original vehicle/motorcycle title, registered in the name of the person for whom the shipment is intended, legalized by the Argentine Consulate in the country of origin.
• Original purchase invoice for the vehicle/motorcycle, legalized by the Argentine Consulate in the country of origin
• Vehicle appraisal performed by a dealership
• Technical specifications, if available. 2 original B/Ls or Express Releases Authorization for our company’s staff to handle customs clearance, with the customer’s signature certified by a notary public under the supervision of the Argentine Notary Public Association.

NOTE: A shipper may only use this benefit once every seven (7) years. 

NOTE: All documents issued abroad must be duly certified, legalized, or, failing that, apostilled by the Argentine Consulate with jurisdiction in the country of origin.
